MindOut "I came to Brighton and thought I’d feel ok... but I don’t feel comfortable all the time on the scene, especially when my depression is bad... coming to the group is great, I don’t have to pretend." MindOut Service User "This project has made a serious effort to make the ‘T’ on the end of LGB into something more than the ambiguous, unwelcome footnote one so often sees." MindOut Service User
This service is for lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people who have concerns about their mental health and/or need help in accessing mental health services or other support. MindOut offers advice, information, advocacy and peer support groups. You can speak in confidence with a lesbian or gay worker about your needs. All Mind advice, information and advocacy services operate independently of mental health or social services. We do not share information with other agencies without your permission unless you or someone else is at risk. We will not tell you what to do or make judgements but help you to make choices and decide what you want from services. We run a weekly group work service where LGBT people with mental health issues can share their experiences, their problems and their stories with each other in a safe, confidential space. We provide and promote anti-homophobia, anti-transphobia and heterosexism awareness training for mental health service providers. We are committed to seeing improvements in the quality of mental health services offered to LGBT people. We work towards reducing stigma around mental health in the LGBT community, see our monthly page in Gscene. MindOut also has a two year contract from NIMHE to run an lgbt suicide prevention project. The outcome of this project will be used to develop a national model of good practice for working with LGBT service users. Service Opening Hours Project Funding Downloads Project Website |
