New courses from Brighton and Hove Food Partnership

Old Spice cookery course

This round of the course will be held outdoors at a beautiful private plot at Stanmer Park.  It’s a free course for anyone over the age of 65.

The course starts on Tuesday 29th June and will run for 3 weeks with a view to run a 4th week, to be confirmed with participants when they start the course.

There will be lots of tea and coffee, cake for those that want it, time to chat and get to know one another, followed by cooking a light healthy lunch together as a group, at a relaxed pace.  Expect healthy soups and stews, curries, light snacks and simple puds (strawberries and cream is on the menu!).  You will be visiting another plot to harvest some produce for one of the sessions and there will also be an outdoors bushcraft session with an outdoors and garden expert.

Participants would need to able to organise their own transport to Stanmer Park and have sturdy shoes they can wear for the sessions (no sandals!). It’s a wonderful opportunity to spend some relaxed time in nature and cook some tasty food with new people.

Cooking with Limited Equipment

Run by The Brighton Nutritionist, Fran Taylor, this series of workshops is for people in temporary accommodation or who have limited equipment/money and aims to develop skills and confidence around cooking nutritious food with what’s available.

Missing meals and going hungry is something that many people in temporary accommodation face. Lack of food, worrying about electricity and not feeling confident to cook are just some of the reasons that get in the way of eating well. This series of workshops is for people in temporary accommodation or who have limited equipment/money and aims to develop skills and confidence around cooking nutritious food with what’s available. It is a four-session course run over two weeks and will help develop some life skills, get to grips with budgeting, know what to do with ingredients that get donated, and eat tasty food that makes you feel good with limited equipment, ingredients and money.

Places are very limited and you need to be able to attend all four sessions.

Dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday 6th July 14:00-15:30
  • Friday 9th July 14:30-16:00
