National Trust Walk for Mental Health Awareness Week

We are delighted to partner with the National Trust for their Walk With Us for Mental Health Awareness Week on 14th of May, 9.30 - 12pm.

Join us at Southease Station (direct train from Brighton) for an beginner level circular walk. National Trust and Mind in Brighton and Hove staff will be present to guide the walk, talk about wellbeing, and provide information and resources.

To book your place call the National Trust Monks House office on 01273 474760 or email monkshouse@nationaltrust.org.uk

Route:

We will begin the walk from train station walking up through the beautiful village of Southease and over some gradual hills towards Monk's House. As we walk past Monk's House - the cottage of writer Virginia Woolf - we will continue towards the River Ouse winding through the valley, and will walk back alongside it till we reach Southease station.

This is a beginner-level walk that has a few hills, but is largely flat with clear paths. Footpaths can be narrow at times and uneven, and one path runs along the riverbank. Please note that we will pass through a cow field, and there may be dog walkers on the public footpath. There are a few gates and a stile to pass through.

What to wear and bring:

Please wear comfortable and weather appropriate clothing, e.g. plenty of layers and a raincoat in cold or wet weather, and short and a t-shirt in warm weather. We will be walking for up to 2 hours, and some sections could be muddy if there has been lots of rain, so please wear comfortable footwear like trainers or hiking boots. If it is sunny and hot, please bring a hat and suncream, as the route is very exposed with little tree shade. Please also bring plenty of water and snacks. There is a café near the train station at the YHA for anyone that wishes to get a hot drink and cake afterwards (although we cannot guarantee opening times, please look this up).
